Hot tub hydrotherapy:
- decreases insomnia and stress
- promotes weight loss
- alleviates headaches and sinus pain
- leads to calmer temperaments
- decreases symptoms of anxiety and depression
Though each benefit is different, the same hydrotherapy principles contribute to each.
The buoyancy of the water reduces gravitational forces applied on the body and the heat of the water dilates blood vessels, which minimizes the hearts workload. Also, heat promotes perspiration, which detoxifies the body of impurities and water retention. Another contributing factor is the hot tub’s jets, which sooth aching muscles and help break down lactic acid buildup. These benefits have a positive impact on the endocrine and lymphatic systems, which maintain the body’s homeostasis.
Relaxing in a hot tub releases endorphins, the body’s natural “feel good” chemical. This chemical helps reduce the effects of stress on the body and leads to long, deep sleep. Relaxing in a hot tub for 10 minutes approximately 90 minutes before bedtime will turn the temperature down on your internal thermostat and help you drift to sleep. With better sleep, reduced stress, and the presence of endorphins, hot tub soakers may experience calmer temperaments and fewer bouts with anxiety and depression.
In regards to weight loss, the same principles apply. Increased blood circulation, raised heart rate from lower blood pressure, and invigorated muscles simulate exercise. Another contributing factor is that water retention is released in perspiration due to the hot tub’s heat. Hot tub use may also minimize the appearance of cellulite. The benefit of alleviated sinus pain and headaches results from the heat of the water. Steam is inhaled during bathing. This steam loosens mucus, opens nasal passages, increases blood flow, and allows for more oxygen intake. This coupled with the relaxing benefits of jet massage help relax the body and release tensions that typically cause headaches.
Expert Testimonials
“Recent scientific studies show that the stress-alleviating, mood-improving, tension reducing power of good old H2O also has to do with the way it affects body chemistry and neurology…After about 24 minutes, the central nervous system patterns of the subjects in warm water were essentially identical to those of people who are relaxed and focused.”--Ladies Home Journal
Customer Testimonials
"Why rack up medical bills and tolerate waiting in the doctors' offices for half your work day, or day off, when you can practice preventative healthcare by soaking in a hot tub regularly? This is one of the reasons why I bought a tub from Oregon HotSpring Spas, since soaking in their tub cures my stress level every time I soak. It's a great transition when I'm waiting to leave stress behind and feel renewed. Stress in our bodies can be one of the main contributors to illness, so anything I can do to releive stress, and enjoy it while I'm at it, is the perfect anecdote."--Charisse from Portland, Oregon, 2004 Tiger River Sumatran
"Almost every night since we purchased our Prodigy hot tub...we find ourselves talking to each other more and are more organized too! We spend 30 minutes to relax and wind down after a long day of work, taking time to talk with each other and planning the next day or even a week."--Tom and Karin from Portland, Oregon, 2002 Hot Spring Prodigy
