Want healthy hot tub & swim spa water? Clean filters are key!

Tuesday, May 8th, 2012

Here’s a startling statistic: many hot tub owners don’t clean or replace the filters in their tub or swim spas at all!! We’re a bit mystified by this, especially since one of the main elements that keep your hot tub & swim spa water clean, clear and healthy is (guest what?!) clean filters!

Filters are designed to keep hot tub & swim spa water clean and free of bacteria, body oils and other organisms introduced by bodies during a soak or swim. There’s only so much, however, that a filter can do without your help. Do the following to keep your water healthy and clean for hot tub & swim spa use:

  • DO clean your filters thoroughly at least once a month. Rinsing with a garden hose is not enough! Filters must be cleaned with a degreasing agent. The filter cleaner (http://www.oregonhottubstore.com/Spa-Essentials-Filter-Cleaner-Spray-p/se_flt_cln.htm) Oregon Hot Tub sells is formulated to do the best job on hot tub and swim spa filters.
  • DO rinse filters in-between cleanings or after sessions in your hot tub or swim spa where the bather load is high. Extra bodies = more “stuff” entering your tub or swim spa. Rinsing helps keep your water cleaner longer, and ensures nothing clogs the filters that can interrupt filtration & heating functions.
  • DO keep your water balanced. When water is out of balance, hardness or other water care products can precipitate out of the water and coat filter sleeves, inhibiting their filtering ability.
  • DO consider adding a Scumball (http://www.oregonhottubstore.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=scumball) to your tub or swim spa’s filter bay. Designed to absorb body oils & lotions, they help prevent filter clogging and water line scum to boot.
  • DO replace your filters on a regular basis. Tubs and swim spas with single filters need to be replaced every year; if a tub or swim spa has multiple cartridges, replace every 2-2½ years.
  • DO consider replacing regular filters with Tri-X (http://www.oregonhottubstore.com/Tri-X-Filter-p/tri_x.htm) filters if you have a Hot Spring Spa. Tri-X is exclusive filter technology only available to Hot Spring Spa owners. Made of a dense filter media, these filters more than double the filtration of your hot tub, and last 4 years minimum! (These can also be used on selected Hot Spot & Solana Spas. See us for details.)

Give your hot tub & swim spa every opportunity to provide you with clean safe enjoyable water…keep those filters in great shape! That’s an order!

Heading to the Home Show? Top 5 things you should know

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

The Portland Home & Garden Show is February 22-26…let the hot tub headaches begin! At least, that’s what many customers seem to experience when they move up and down the show aisles, bombarded with the many choices out there in hot tubs.

Before you head to the Home Show, take some time to do research on the companies with show displays. A little bit of homework will certainly narrow your choices and you’ll be better prepared to do educated shopping and make the most of your show time.

Here are five top things you should know about the hot tub company you choose to shop at the show:

  1. Do they have an established history in my community? Or, is this company at the show someone who travels from state to state, with no showroom and no business address in Oregon? Make sure the hot tub company you choose can be there to support you for the years you own your hot tub, and are local so they can provide your warranty service.
  2. Do they have any service awards or certifications? The company that has a reputation for great customer service and has been lauded by their customers in online reviews will no doubt do right by you as well. There should also be awards from manufacturers, community groups, and associated professionals.
  3. Do they have longevity offering the same brands to their customers? Or do they change brands every six months, year, two years? The longer a company has been a dealer for one brand of product is the mark of stability, consistency—and offering a hot tub brand that serves consumers as a solid investment.
  4. Do they offer services to help you make the right decision in a hot tub? A good hot tub company will offer in-home consultations, the ability to try out a few tubs in their showrooms if you need that as part of your decision-making process, and a solid customer satisfaction guarantee in case the tub you choose isn’t quite right.
  5. Is their show booth staffed by sales staff that works in their stores as well? Some hot tub companies hire outside show teams designed to extract money at shows in order to make money for themselves. The sales pro you choose to do business with should be available to help you every step along the way and make sure you’re set up for the long haul.

A little homework before you set out for the Home Show will make a big difference in who you choose as your hot tub company. We’ll hope to see you at the show, and have you join the thousands of happy customers we’ve partnered with since 1979. It’s how we continue to beOregon’s premier hot tub company!

Introducing Hot Spring’s new hot tub for 2012: The Bolt

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Hot Spring Spas began 35 years ago in 1977. Their goal at the time was simple: create the most energy efficient portable hot tub that would provide terrific hydrotherapy—and do it all with 110V power. This year, Hot Spring introduces a new tub in its Limelight© Collection that honors its heritage—the Bolt™.

We’re really excited about this tub! Designed with seating for four, the Bolt is the perfect hot tub for those that want a tub that isn’t too big or too small—as Goldilocks would say, it’s “just right”. Its 6’8” X 6’8” size allows it to fit into a backyard or patio without dominating the space. And, as the first 110V tub in the Limelight Collection, it allows you to enjoy terrific contemporary styling in a small package: sleek lines, yummy timeless shell colors, unique LED points of light scattered through the tub to mimic stars in the night sky, cushy headrests, and the ability to integrate wireless entertainment. Plus, you can relax in clean, sparkling natural water with Hot Spring’s exclusive ACE Salt Water System.

The Bolt is not only contemporary, it’s also green. The 2012 Limelight Collection features a new substructure made of polymeric recycled materials. There is no wood in the unit that can ever rot over time, and ends the use of forested lumber for hot tub manufacturing. It also features another Hot Spring revolutionary innovation: FiberCor™ Insulation. This insulation is 100% recyclable, and retires the traditional petroleum-based foam insulation standard in the hot tub industry. It replaces ½ lb foam insulation with material that now can insulate the same as 2 lb insulation—four times the density! Not only is it greener, but it increases energy efficiency and serviceability for the hot tub owner.

Think we’re excited about the new Bolt? You bet we are! If you’re looking for ways to relax your life in 2012, the Bolt is the answer. Visit one of our stores today and check out the entire line of Hot Spring Spas. Learn why more Hot Spring Spas have been sold worldwide than any other brand—and why Hot Spring continues to lead the hot tub industry in innovation and energy efficiency. We’ll see you soon!

The makers of Hot Spring Spas purchases Freeflow Spas

Friday, January 27th, 2012

Oregon Hot Tub made a change in our hot tub offering nearly four years ago when we partnered with Freeflow Spas. This was a big change for our company—prior to this we had carried only one brand of hot tubs for decades: the family of Hot Spring Spas made by Watkins Manufacturing.

Our goal when deciding to carry Freeflow was simple. We wanted to expand the price points we were able to offer our customers on quality, energy-efficient hot tubs that were easy to install. Freeflow gave us the opportunity to offer hot tub ownership to individuals who wanted to fulfill their dream of having their own tub at home, but only had a fixed amount of money to invest in the idea.

We’ve enjoyed great success with the product—and it seems others have taken notice. Watkins Manufacturing, the maker of Hot Spring Spas, recently completed acquisition of Freeflow Spas in December 2011. According to Steve Hammock, President of Watkins Manufacturing, the purchase of Freeflow Spas allows them to satisfy one of their long term strategies: delivering the right products to the right markets at the right prices.

With this acquisition, Freeflow Spas joins our other lines made by Watkins—Hot Spring, Limelight & Hot Spot Spas—becoming part of the manufacturer making the largest number of hot tubs year in and year out worldwide!

Oregon Hot Tub is very excited for what lies ahead for the Freeflow line as it transitions fully into Watkins family of hot tubs. If you’re in the market for a straightforward, energy efficient, solidly built, easy-to-install hot tub, then Freeflow Spas is the answer! Visit us today and learn more about the entire line of Freeflow products.

A hot tub or sauna satisfies the “quest for quiet”

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Well, this is certainly a sign of the times. People are starting to search out ways to disconnect and find peace and quiet for their lives.

At the end of December, The New York Times published an article in their Opinion Pages by Pico Iyer. In his article, he recounted some of the ways people are searching out ways to disconnect from our now incredibly wired existence (the average of 8½ hours a day in front of a screen!). Resorts are charging a premium to offer rooms without TVs and connectivity;South Korea andChina have Internet Rescue Camps to cut electronic addiction of their kids; more people are seeking out yoga to center themselves. Oprah Winfrey recently visited Dr. Oz’s show (as a guest for the first time). During the show, she mentioned how important meditation had become to her—and her entire staff at her OWN television station—to disconnect from the day. In fact, it’s become so important that they all gather together twice during the workday to meditate!

Well…here’s the “duh” in all of this: Oregon Hot Tub has known for the entire existence of our company that hot tubs and saunas are the perfect way to achieve the quest for quiet each and every day. Not only will immersing yourself in a hot tub or entering the peace and toasty tranquility of a sauna improve your health, it will also provide the solitude more Americans crave each and every day. It also affords that very valued quiet time to share with a family member or loved one and reconnect—without cell phones, computers, e-books, tablets…you get the idea.

If you’re going to invest money in a quiet place, do it once, with something that will give back to you each and every day for years and years to come: a hot tub or sauna from Oregon Hot Tub. You’ll discover your own inner peace—and you might just be the envy of all your friends and co-workers when your mood and disposition is markedly improved.
